Dr. Elizabeth Kelley
Inaugural Dalhousie-Horrocks Leadership Lecture
Questions of Leadership
After more than eight decades of research, there are still many unanswered questions about leadership. It is an implicity assumption in this existing work that leaders and followers interact on a face-to-face basis. With the increase in remote working arrangement, however, this assumption may no longer be valid. Now the unanswered questions relate not only to how can you lead effectively, but include an even more perplexing question - how can you lead effectively when you have no face-to-face interaction with your followers? Through a brief review of the history of leadership thought, an outline of the most researched style of leadership, and a glimpse into the findings of her initial research on what leadership in the virtual environment might require, Dr Elizabeth Kelley will provide some answers to the integrative question - how can one lead effectively in either environment?
